lately (That’s a registered medical disorder, I believe. Medicine, please.). And when I’m poopie, I always remember how much my babies love me no matter what — and quite honestly, wonder why it is so frowned on to spend your life surrounded by cats.

I mean, talk about perfect love — no fights, no complaining, no stupid moves (well, maybe a couple), but in the end cats are all love. They love you no matter what and show you all the time. Give me a cat any day.

That said, here is my Top 10 Reasons Why Cats are the Best:

1. They like to cuddle.

2. They’re always happy to see you.

3. They’re nice and soft and smell good (well, just not that end).

4. They listen, and often even respond.

5. They bring you presents (whether you want said “presents” or not is not the point here).

6. They’re easily amused. Just give them a paper ball or a hair tie and they’re good for hours.

7. They eat anything. Whatever you cook (or slackingly microwave) is delicious and tasty.

8. They know when something’s wrong and pay you extra special attention during those times.

9. They don’t lie.

10. They purr. There is no sweeter, happier sound than a kitty purring…

And that’s it. I’m in a cat mood today (as if this was something new). If all the cats in this world suddenly turned into people, this Earth would be a way better place to live. :)

Abyssinians

Other names for the Abyssinian cat include Aby and Bunny cat. Ancient Egyptians revered and deified this cat. Mummified cats bear stark resemblances to this breed. Those that have been unearthed appear to be the same. The very first Abyssinian cats were from Ethiopia, which is now Abyssinia. This breed, with its unique ears and stately appearance, bears many resemblances to the African wildcat, an ancestor of today's domestic cat. The Abyssinian cat has a 9 to 15 year life term. It has just three or more kittens per litter. Its coat is dark and sooty at birth, however, it gets fair and light as the cat ages. The coat's color doesn't finalize for quite some time. Abyssinians are not overly large or diminutive. They're average. They look very defined, suave, distinct, and distinguished. The ears have little tips, and the bodies are flexible and elongated. The paws are oval-shaped and small and miniature. The ears are big and spread apart far. The eyes are almond-shaped and very noticeable. The short, close-knit coats have double ticking. The tail is long and wavering, and it tapers off to the end. The Abyssinian cat have a relatively small amount of hereditary diseases. PRA, neurological storage disease, renal amyloidosis, psychogenic alopecia, and others have been reported, and many can be detected in early ages. It's important not to overgroom or stress the cat out. Cats with these diseases should not be bred further. It has vivacious energy, great compatibility with other animals, and it's all right for youngsters. The acceptable colors for cats are ruddy, sorrel, blue, fawn, silver, and various mixtures of silver. Less commonly, tortoiseshell, red, black, and others show up. Brush the beautiful coat regularly with a brush and comb. Afterward, use a leather chamois to impart a great shine to the coat. The Abyssinian cat's history is shrouded in mystery, but the basic truths are easy to ascertain. The spouse of an English Army man, Mrs. Captain Barrett-Leonard, retrieved the first one from Abyssinia in 1868 and procured it back to Britain. Other officers perhaps brought more of them back from the former Ethiopia. Eight years later the first written record in Britain was discovered. Finally, after another eight years, it was officially recognized in Britain. The early 20th century shipping expeditions and tourist travels introduced the Abyssinians to North America. Congruent-looking cats came from Southeast Asia and the Indian Ocean region around the same time. Genetic studies continue to verify this. The Abyssinian cat is a curious creature. It's loyal, attached, reserved, cautious, and very intelligent too. Females may like their status as the prime, or only, cat in the family. It needs space, climbing toys, and constant human company. The cat does not meow much, but it does so when it needs to. It's smart and playful. It's not rambunctious. It enjoys being stroked and caressed after time out of human company. Abyssinians have chins that form defined lines.

Consider an Older "Disabled" Cat

Timmi was in sad shape when first rescued, with an infected eye, which had to be removed. While looking for an older cat, consider one that is "disabled," if you can afford continued veterinary care.

To recap reasons for adopting an older cat:

* Older cats are usually litter box trained
* Adult cats are usually neutered and have had their shots
* A young adult cat is a good choice for homes with small children
* A young adult cat is perfect for a working couple or single
* A senior cat is an excellent choice for a senior human
* An older declare cat will be a good choice for someone who needs a declawed cat for medical reasons
* An older cat is a natural choice for a senior cat who has lost a companion
* Older cats are ever-so-grateful for a second chance at a loving home!

As Sharon Dubois said when talking about rescue and adoption, "In the long run, we humans are the beneficiaries."

An Older Cat Needs an Older Companion

If you have an older cat who is lonely because of the loss of a feline companion, another older cat would make a perfect adoption choices. In fact, you'll often find older cats in shelters for exactly that reason; their human companions died, and no relatives or friends wanted to take them in. In his case, he was lucky because a caring person rescued him (after months of failed attempts), patched him up and gave him a home.

A young adult cat would be perfect for a home with smaller children, or for a younger working single or couple who need to leave a cat unattended during the day. Let's face it: little kids are often much too rough with kittens, and kittens become bored and mischievous when left home alone day after day. There's also too much chance of their harming themselves in even the most kitten-safe home.

Kitten Season Means Death to Many Older Cats in Shelters

During kitten season, the ongoing cat overpopulation problems become increasingly severe. Hundreds of thousands of kittens end up in shelters, which are already overcrowded. Many of the kittens find homes, at the expense of older cats who have been waiting in vain, but in "kill shelters," more of these kittens are either euthanized, or older cats are sacrificed to make room for the "more adoptable" kittens.

Read these reasons why to consider adopting an older cat in this illustrated article, and why you should spay and neuter your cats. Please keep in mind while reading these pages that although the pictured cats have all been rescued from the streets and have found happy forever homes, that there are still hundreds and thousands of their counterparts languishing in shelters.

Close Shave - Funny Cat Picture

Close shave, or shadow boxing?

Cat, Bear or Godzilla?

Day 84 of my captivity.

My captors continued to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction I get from clawing the furniture. Tomorrow I may eat another house plant.

Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded. Maybe I should try this at the top of the stairs.

In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair. I must try this on their bed.

Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body in an attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear into their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little kitty cat I was. This is not working according to plan.

There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary confinement throughout the event. However, I could hear the noise and smell the food. More important, I overheard that my confinement was due to my powers of inducing something called ' allergies.' Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage.

I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit.

The bird, on the other hand, has got to be an informant. He speaks with them regularly, and I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the metal room, his safety is assured. But I can wait.

It's only a matter of time.

Cute Cat Wallpaper

Clicker training is a reinforcement or reward for a cat when training them. Clickers are use most often for support when training a cat for a reward. Cats associate the clicker with a good behavior they will use for a long time. Clicker training is associated with classical condition were they associate the sound with food. and operant conditioning (cat will do certain movement to receive food).

Why use a clicker and not tell a cat or make a sound to get your cat to do a trick? A clicker has a sound a cat can hear and associate good behavior. With words, our tones in our voice can change from time to time, which a cat can become confused with the training. With talking for the commands, a cat could mistake the commands. With using a clicker, it is more of a training tool to get the behavior started with the cat. Then you can put the clicker away for that behavior or trick once a cat has learned the behavior

When taking the cat out for a walk or on a trip, the clicker is a good item to carry along with you. Cats can get distracted with other people, or animals in the area. With using the clicker, it will reinforce the behavior that you have taught them. In addition, a clicker can help you with having your cat walk with you instead of wondering around.

With the clicker, a cat can be trained using three easy steps: Get a behavior, mark a behavior, and reinforce the behavior. Get a behavior is the first step. A good example would be for the cat to jump a hoop. The cat will have to know that when you click that they get a treat. Start with very small treats in your pocket. Clicks, Treat, Click Treat do this for a few times until you see the cat coming for the treat on the click.

Next marking the behavior: You will have to show the cat the hoop. Once the cat touches the hoop, click, treat. Then show the cat to go though the hoop once it does click, treat. Continue to do this until the cat goes though the hoop on its own or your command. Reinforce the behavior Remember to have snacks handy so when you do see your cat go though the hoop a snack is available.

Training a cat with a clicker can be fun for both you and the cat. Taking steps in training will be rewarding to you and the cat. Try not to rush a cat in training, as they can become confused especially if they did not get the step before down. The training will take time and steps to achieve this behavior. Patience, love, and rewards will be the key factor in training your cat.

The clicker is a good exercises tool for a cat. 10 to 15 minutes a day you should get your cat to exercises. For exercising, you can have the cat use a hoop, play with a toy, and climb on the scratching post or something that focus on the cat getting exercise. Exercises will help the cat to stay healthy and help to keep it out of mischief.

Clickers can come with books to help you train, treats, and a clicker. Clickers come in many different size shapes, and color. You will want to research the clickers out. Check out a pet store, Internet sites give lots of information on training and using a clicker. Check out companies that make the clicker by using Internet to see what kind they offer and any additional information that you might need to get the process of training done. Check out articles about the clicker. Talk to someone that has used one. Talk to your area veterinary about training with a Clicker

Once you have used a clicker, the cat will get good exercise and be a healthy cat. The cat will be happier and you will be happier with the new behaviors that you have taught your cat.

To sum up training your cat, important things to remember is have patience, love and the use of the clicker.

NOTE: This article is for information only. A Bengal breeder, Frank had stepped away from her main breed of cat, crossbreeding an African wild cat, the Serval, with a domestic. April 7th brought her plans to fruition with the birth of Savannah, the first of a new hybrid breed.

Beautiful Savannah caught the eye of Patrick Kelly, a long-time enthusiast of exotic-looking domestic cats, who then purchased a second-generation hybrid - one of Savannah's kittens - in 1989. His enthusiasm for this new domestic breed was boundless. Kelly dug into research to find what was needed for Savannah and her children to be recognized by an official feline registry.

Kelly met with several Serval breeders, attempting to develop interest in creating more of this exotic breed. Although none were interested initially, he continued. He went to cat shows; he made phone calls. Finally, he managed to convince one breeder, Joyce Sroufe, in founding the breed now known as Savannah.

Together, Patrick Kelly and Joyce Sroufe laid out the original Savannah breed standard. In 1996, they brought it to the TICA (The International Cat Association) board. Unfortunately, TICA had put a freeze on new breeds early that year. It took four more years before Savannah would be recognized.

In 2000, after the standard had been rewritten with input from other breeders, TICA accepted the Savannah breed in a tight 7-to-6 vote. SIMBA (the Savannah International Member and Breeder Association), was formed as soon as the votes were cast. At it's first count, SIMBA boasted a little over 100 registered Savannahs. Within a year, the number of Savannahs had more than doubled.

Although the breed is still somewhat in its infancy, the number of people wanting to own a Savannah cat is large. Already, dozens of breeders have turned to breeding Savannahs. There are over 60 breeders worldwide, in North America as well as Europe.

Tall and long, Savannah's have been described as dogs in cat skins. They're sociable, graceful and love to play in water; some would rather swim in a bathtub than play other games. Owners have said that the Savannah's will follow them through the house like a dog, and they are easily trained to leashes.

Through careful breeding, Savannahs have been improved to be more acceptable as a domestic cat, crossing them with spotted domestic shorthairs. Although F1 (first generation) Savannahs can weight as much or more than 20 pounds, F4s and later are smaller - though still a bit bigger than regular domestics. Large and loveable, Savannahs have been bred to keep both traits, while getting rid of some of the less desirable traits found in their wild Sevral ancestors.

One of the traits that have made the breed so popular for many cat lovers - its size - has also brought it plenty of controversy. In New York, the breed is considered a wild, exotic animal, which is prohibited by state law. The breed is also considered illegal in Alaska, because it can survive in the wild and might be "a threat to natural Alaskan wildlife".

The Australian government banned the import of the breed, concerned that its wild ancestry might be passed on to feral domestic cats. Should the breed get loose and reproduce, many fear the possibility of creating "supercats" - big, smart and wild. It has only been since 2006 that Australia finally lifted the ban on Savannah import and allowed the breed into the country.

Have you walked your cat today?

Is your cat climbing the drapes and shredding your best sofa? If you have the mental and physical stamina to nurse newborns, keep them warm, and handle all their physical needs, these articles and resources can help you handle the role of a surrogate cat mother.
Tracking Kittens Development- Newborns to one week
To most of us, kittens are magical, loveable creatures with the power to entrance that one would not expect from their tiny, helpless forms. What a win-win situation it would be for both parties, to adopt a cat like Snookie!

Consider a Young Adult Cat with Smaller Childrens

Fluffy is an example of last year's kittens who often turn into this year's unwanted adult cat languishing in a shelter. Let's face it: little kids are often much too rough with kittens, and kittens become bored and mischievous when left home alone day after day.

Newer girls

Monkey will be coming to adoptions soon. She is a very cute torti and has a tail that curves over her back and then it hangs in a curl along her side! She had a litter of kittens, they've been adopted and now it is her turn. Her foster thinks she is young, she is very playful and loves attention and gets along with another cat. The vet guessed her at a year +. Look at her dark fur outlining her mouth - it almost looks like a smile.

Alana is a little girl with lots of spunk and spirit. She came from Red Lake and loved the two dogs in her temporary foster home immediately. Legs waving, tummy being nuzzled. She can be a little intimidating with another cat as she comes on very enthusiastically for such a petite thing.

Alana was found at the dump, the rest of her siblings had been stomped to death. This little girl is so fast, I'm sure that the perpetrator was not coordinated enough to kill her. We hope Alana will have a long and healthy life with a dog or two of her own and to be kept inside, safe from harm. She will be ready for adoption after her spay the middle of August.

Bengal Cats Picture

To belie its wild background, a Bengal is described as lively, playful, affectionate, and intelligent. (ouchies!)

We now have a routine with her feeding, besides the big bowl of quality dry kitten food, she likes to get excited about the small portions of wet can food she gets, after I get off work in the afternoon.

Cat Pictures

Some cat lovers' idea of great content is pictures of cats, cute kitten pictures, cat photo albums, or picture galleries of cats.
